"It's Academic" news

THE CHS "IT'S ACADEMIC" TEAM traveled to Arundel High School this weekend to compete in a quizbowl tournament against 12 other teams and CHS' "A" team, comprised of junior Matt Keimig (Captain), senior Miles Young, sophomore Nancy Zhang and "freshman phenom" Ryan Heslin, won a trophy for Third Place. The "B" Team, comprised of  junior Clarissa Santori (Captain), sophomore Qian Mei, sophomore Hua Zhou, and another "freshman phenom" Anant Mishra, took Fourth Place.

Some weeks ago, the CHS "It's Academic" team placed Fourth out of 24 teams at a National History Bowl Regional Tournament, thus qualifying to compete in the 2012 National History Bowl Championships in Washington, D.C., in April.  Also, the team placed Sixth out of 32 teams from four neighboring states and the District of Columbia at the St. Anselm's Abbey School (Washington, D.C.) Novice Tournament in October.

• 2011 W-2 Statement(s)
• 2011 Asset Information and Untaxed Income Record
• Driver's License

Quicknotes has 1,385 subscibed readers. We're trying to find out how the different types of personal computers (PCs) and PC hardware, web browsers and hand-held mobile devices that Quicknotes readers use affect the "readability" of the e-newsletter. Please, help us acquire this specific data if you can.

FREE program open to first 90 registrants

SATURDAY, APRIL 28, 8:30 AM - 1 PM -- J.M. Patterson Building, University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP). The University of Maryland's student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) will host this program for students interested in engineering, math and science. Students will interface with college engineering students, meet a professional engineer and will team up to work on fun enginnering-related activities. GIRLS BASKETBALL: The Lady Eagles defeated (57-25) Hammond on Thursday; Washington Post summary, statistics are here, MaxPreps' are here.  MPSSAA 3A East Region Tournament pairings have been set, brackets are here. Centennial plays a First Round game at Northeast High School on Friday.

INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: The 3A/4A MPSSAA Indoor Track State Finals are today at 4 PM at the Prince George's Sports & learning Complex in Landover. Visit this MPSSAA webpage for ticket information, to see the heat sheets and to view event results as they occur today. 

WRESTLING: The Eagles came in Seventh Place at the Howard County Wrestling Tournament this weekend and senior Nathan Kraisser claimed his fourth County title; VarsitySports Network article is here. Junior Nizami Barton and sophomore Brad Fasulo have qualified for the JV District V Wrestling Tournament at North County High School tomorrow. Along with Nathan Kraisser, sophomores Hutson Baumann and Sam Boulos have qualified for this weekend's MPSSAA Region Tournament.

The ten students have qualified to take the MMA American Invitational Mathematics Exam (AIME), a 15-question, three-hour examination, next month.

Your chance to speak out about health care in Howard County

THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND MENTAL HYGIENE (MDHMH) has asked all counties to establish goals to improve overall public health for its citizens, and Howard County is asking its residents to provide feedback on community health issues to help further shape a draft of a Howard County Health Action Plan.

The draft Howard County Health Action Plan will be submitted to the MDHMH on MARCH 1. CLICK HERE for details in a February 16 Baltimore Sun article.
