During National Hispanic Heritage Month, America celebrates the culture and traditions of those who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico and the Spanish-speaking nations of Central America, South America and the Caribbean. September 15 is the date chosen for the "starting point" for the celebration because the date is the anniversary of independence of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and 18, respectively.
CHS IS CELEBRATING Hispanic Heritage Month with a lobby display of posters and artifacts from different Hispanic cultures. Please take the time to stop by and view cultures; for more information about local celebrations, contact CHS World Languages teachers or CHS PTSA Latin Advancement Committee co-Chairs Sylvia Baroncinni (rbaroncinni@verizon.net) and/or Carol Lake (carol.lakewilkes@gmail.com).
