Fall 2011 Safe Driving presentations (for Student Parking Permit)

Any CHS student who would like to apply for a CHS STUDENT PARKING PERMIT for the 2011-2012 school year must attend any one of 23 Safe Driving Presentations scheduled at local high schools this Fall. Students must attend the presentations accompanied by one parent or guardian; the  parent/guardian must be present for the entire presentation. No one will be admitted after the presentation start time; no exceptions will be made to this County initiative. Students will be issued a Safe Driving Class Participation Certificate following the presentation; please keep this Certificate for verification of attendance.

THIS TUESDAY -- After-Prom fundraiser at Qdoba Mexican Grill

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 5 - 8 PM -- Qdoba Mexican Grill, Route 40 East, Ellicott City. (Map, directions here.) The CHS Junior-Senior Prom may be months and months away, but even so, our plans for this school year's After-Prom Party already are well underway. Please support our efforts to provide CHS Prom-goers and their guests with a safe, substance-free and super-fun post-Prom event by dining in or carrying out (order online) at Qdoba the day after the Labor Day holiday.

Meeting notice -- PTSA General Membership meeting at CHS "Back-to-School" Night

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 6:30 - 9 PM -- Auditorium. During this brief meeting beginning at 6:30 PM, copies of the PTSA's 2011-2012 Budget will be distributed and reviewed with the goal of approving the Budget by a PTSA General Membership vote. We look forward to seeing all new and returning members!

Stressless Tests study skills classes at CHS

STRESSLESS TESTS® registration for Fall High School Learning Style and Study Skills Classes is now open. Subjects include: How to Study More Effectively: Time Management - Overcoming Procrastination; Test-taking Skills; Focusing, Concentrating and Getting Organized; Taming ADD; Dealing with Boredom and Overwhelm; Effective Self Advocacy; and more. Great for students who have never learned how to study and for those who are creative thinkers, whether as gifted learners or struggling students. They will experience new skills, greater confidence and renewed motivation. Parents are encouraged to sign up early to build a strong foundation of skills before academic pressures increase.

Classes meet for four (4) Wednesday nights at Centennial High School. Choose from sessions that start on SEPTEMBER 21, OCTOBER 19, or NOVEMBER 16. The sliding scale fee ranges from $145 to $209 and includes a copy of the new What's My Style? Test and Study Secrets for Procrastinating Teens by Betty Caldwell. Free-range turkeys: A healthier option for Thanksgiving dinner

PRE-ORDER DEADLINE: THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 8 ($20 deposit)
TURKEY PICK-UP: TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 22, 4 - 6:30 PM

INSTEAD OF CARVING INTO a store-bought bird this Thanksgiving, CHS Band Backers invites you to try a free-range turkey from The Zahradka Farm, Centennial's  CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farmer*. Zahradka's turkeys have not been raised in commercial poultry pens and have been fed no antibiotics, steroids or hormones -- just healthy, balanced turkey feed. $5 per turkey ordered will be donated to CHS Band Backers.
