World Languages Honor Society

This year rounds out a decade of  CHS students annually inducted  into the school's chapter of the World Languages Honor Society. The Honor Society recognizes high achievement in the study of  the Chinese, French, German and Spanish languages and promotes continuity and interest in the study of languages. Names of students inducted into the honor society at the May 10 Ceremony are here.

CHS student receives high honors in national chemistry competition

Sophomore Aneesh Agrawal competed in the 2011 National Chemistry Olympiad, a  competition sponsored by the American Chemistry Society (ACS) that brings together the most talented high school students nationwide to test their knowledge and skills in chemistry. More than 10,000 high school students participated in this year's national Olympiad, and Aneesh placed with High Honors as one of the Olympiad's Top 70 scorers.

Students who score in the Olympiad's Top 20 move on to a ACS study camp, and of those, four students progress to the International Chemistry Olympiad (IChO). Aneesh is looking forward to competing in the National Chemistry Olympaid next year with hopes of  making it to next year's IChO.

Parents, right now is the perfect time to strengthen your relationship with your child's school

Centennial High School's PTSA is looking for parent volunteers for the 2011-12 school year .

 We're looking for people who are interested in getting more "connected" to the school by sharing their time and talents (whether in large ways or small) with our non-profit organization.  

Being a PTSA volunteer is a great way to:

     --  Be more on top of what's going on at the school;
     --  Meet, and build relationships with other involved
              CHS parents;
     --  Interface more frequently with school administration
              and staff.

Our Nominating Committee currently is accepting nominations for next year's PTSA Officers and is working to fill open Committee Chair and Committee member positions. Please consider getting involved with any of these PTSA committees:<

Dear Quicknotes Reader,

Every year, our After-Prom Party provides an entertaining and safe post-Prom venue for our school's juniors, seniors and their guests. The After-Prom Party is the PTSA's biggest effort of the school year in scope of long-range planning, ongoing fundraising events and PTSA funds budgeted, and the event would not occur without the support of  the school, the county, parents and the business community.

The PTSA would like to acknowledge all those who volunteered their time, energy, creativity and resources to help make this year's PTSA After-Prom Party a success. We are exceedingly grateful for your help, and even more grateful for your clearly demonstrated commitment to the PTSA's goal of keeping students safe, substance-free and excellently entertained on Prom Night.

Session   I: MONDAY, JUNE 27 - FRIDAY, JULY 1, 8 AM - 4 PM (ENROLLMENT DEADLINE: MAY 31)
Session II: MONDAY - FRIDAY, AUGUST 1 - 5, 8 AM - 4 PM (ENROLLMENT DEADLINE: JULY 15)

Camp locations to be determined. FREE five-day camp with meals provided; sponsored by the Howard County Police Department of Youth Services. Summer volunteer opportunity for students at Howard County Library

SATURDAY, MAY 21, 3 PM -- Howard County Library, Miller Branch, Ellicott City, OR TUESDAY, MAY 24, 7 PM -- Central Branch, Columbia. Calling all students! Make reading fun for kids, earn service learning hours. Volunteers will assist Library instructors with the Summer Reading Club and other tasks. Leadership opportunity for students

High school students may apply for the following APPOINTED officer positions for the Howard County Association of Student Councils (HCASC) for the 2011-12 school year: Chief of Staff, State Legislative Affairs Coordinator, Environmental Affairs Coordinator, Health and Social Issues Coordinator, Public Relations Manager and Special Elections Administrator. Boys Lacrosse: The Eagles lost (8-6) to Howard in Monday's Semifinal playoff; Howard County Times report is here; Columbia Patch story and photographs are here.

Girls Lacrosse: Bad weather interrupted Centennial's Regional Semifinals game with Mt. Hebron on Monday (Howard County Times report is here); the game continued the next day with a loss (9-8) for Centennial; Howard County Times report is here.

Outdoor Track & Field: 3A East Regionals are tomorrow afternoon and Saturday at Reservoir High School.

Softball: Centennial's twice-postponed game at Reservoir will be played today.

Tennis:  Centennial took Third Place at the Howard County Tennis Championships. CONGRATULATIONS! to Chase Weinberg and Kevin Hsieh, and to Kanami Mori and Michael Baruch, for winning the Boys Doubles and Mixed Doubles Championship titles, respectively, for Centennial. Howard County Times report is here.
