NHS International Night postponed

The Centennial High School National Honor Society (NHS) has rescheduled its International Night celebration to take place on FRIDAY, APRIL 15 at 7 PM in the Auditorium. Look for more information about this event in Monday's (April 4) CHS PTSA Quicknotes.

StarTalk summer language program at HCC

APPLICATION DEADLINE: Monday, April 4

StarTalk is a government initiative to increase the number of Americans learning critical need languages. The StarTalk program pays tuition for high school students (rising 9 - 12th graders as well as newly graduated seniors) to learn Arabic, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi or Persian in HCC’s World Languages Program. Upon successful completion of the StarTalk program, students earn four (4) college credits and one (1) credit for high school graduation (with prior approval of the principal).

Summer 2011 StarTalk program dates at Howard Community College (HCC) are Monday-Thursday, June 20 - July 29, 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM; if necessary, some Friday classes may be added.

Centennial High School Junior-Senior Prom

The Centennial High School Junior-Senior Prom will be held at the Hippodrome Theatre, Baltimore, on SATURDAY, APRIL 30 from 8 PM - midnight.

Prom tickets will be available for purchase next week (Monday - Friday, April 4 - 8) during all LUNCH PERIODS. Prom Tickets are $55 each.

Prom Guest Approval Request Form: Click here to download this Form. Required for students who wish to bring a Prom guest who is not a student presently enrolled at Centennial High School. Many signatures required.

After the Prom, “the evening is still young!” Prom-night fun continues with Monte Carlo Night at the PTSA After-Prom Party

The CHS Junior-Senior Prom may end when the clock strikes twelve (midnight) on Saturday, April 30, but the fun will be far from over!  This year’s PTSA After-Prom Party has a “Monte Carlo Night” theme, with all of the glitz, glamour and excitement that the name implies.

There'll be dancing witha DJ, casino games (no cash --  everyone receives free "funny money;" casino tables will be overseen by real pit bosses) and drawings for fabulous prizes throughout the night. Add to that a rock-climbing wall, mysterious fortune-tellers and a lot more surprises that will make for magical Prom-Night memories!

Immediately after the CHS Junior-Senior Prom ends at midnight, CHS Prom-goers and their guests are welcome to be transported by bus to the PTSA's After-Prom Party (12:01 AM – 5 AM Sunday, May 1) at LifeTime Fitness in Columbia

 All CHS juniors and seniors and their guests  are invited to come to the Party, whether they go to the Prom or not! 

After-Prom Party tickets ($5 per person*) will be sold during all Lunch periods NEXT WEEK (Monday, April 4 – Friday, April 8.) All CHS juniors and seniors and their guests who plan to attend the Party will need to complete and turn in the following three (3) forms:

• PTSA After-Prom Party Permission Slip
• LifeTime Fitness Participation Waiver
• Download LifeTime Fitness Wall-ClimbingWaiver

These forms will be available where Prom and After-Prom Party tickets are sold, or you can click on each form listed above to download and print copies at your convenience.

 * A note about the $5 ticket price: For the past seven years (ever since this annual event began), the CHS PTSA has been pleased and proud that Centennial High School has been the only high school in Howard County to host a FREE After-Prom Party.

Although the CHS PTSA and its hard-working After-Prom Committee are deeply grateful to the generous individuals, families and organizations who thus far have made contributions to this year’s After-Prom Party, we find that, unfortunately, we are  short of our fundraising goal. So, to help cover expenses for this year's party, we will have to charge students and their guests a nominal fee of $5 to attend the Party.

We wish it were otherwise. We appreciate your understanding. We are certain that everyone will be thrilled and very well entertained (for just $5!) with all of the "Monte Carlo Night" activities and all the other fun to be had at LifeTime Fitness!

If you would like to join the fun-loving After-Prom Party Committee to help plan the final stages of this fantastic event, please come to our next meeting on Monday, April 4 at 7 PM in the Student Services Conference Room. Hope to see you there!

Baseball: Centennial lost (10-7) to River Hill Monday (Howard County Times game summary is here) and won (18-11) yesterday's game with Marriotts Ridge.

Boys Lacrosse: The Eagles defeated (7-6) Catonsville on Monday, March 21. Last Friday, they defeated (15-0) Oakland Mills. Yesterday, they defeated (12-8) Reservoir; Howard County Times reporting is here.

Girls Lacrosse: The Lady Eagles defeated (18-8) Reservoir yesterday;  (18-8); Howard County Times report is here.

Outdoor Track & Field: Tomorrow, the Boys and Girls Teams have a meet at Howard High School.

Softball: Centennial lost (2-1) to River Hill on Monday (Howard County Times report is here) and won (3-2) yesterday's game with Marriotts Ridge (Howard County Times report is here).

Band Backers Family BINGO Night

Friday, April 15, 7 - 9 PM (Doors open at 6:30 PM so come early to get a seat!) -- Cafeteria. Terrific Bingo prizes for players of all ages including gift cards to your favorite local restaurants and stores! Purchase of a $5 Bingo card includes a slice of pizza and a soft drink. 2011 PTACHC senior scholarships

PTA Council of Howard County (PTACHC) 2011 Scholarships -- PTACHC annually recognizes Howard County students for academic performance, for outstanding contributions in the community, for aspirations to become teachers and for students who desire to enter a trade or technical field. Scholarships from $500 to $2,000. Historically, PTACHC has been able to help eight to ten students per year in obtaining their goal in life through higher education; this assistance could not be accomplished without the generous donations from PTAs throughout the county at all levels: elementary, middle, and high school.
