Volunteers needed

Northfield Elementary School is hosting a Carnival on Sat., May 3rd from 11:00-3:00. They are looking for volunteers to help with craft or game booths. There are 4 shifts. If you can help contact Jackie Crispell at 410-480-3242, or go to the website at jcrispell@verizon.net.

PARENT PLEDGE

With the Prom less than two weeks away, the CHS PTSA is encouraging parents to consider signing the PTSA's Parent Pledge, a promise to provide a safe, alcohol and drug free environment in your home for students. Click HERE to find a copy of the Parent Pledge form.

We have also provided a list of parents who have signed the pledge on the PTSA website (click HERE). The purpose of providing this list is to encourage networking and communication among like-minded parents. Often parents feel they are alone in setting restrictions and rules when, in reality, there are many other parents out there doing the same thing. If you have questions regarding this list please email cindy.feinstein@yahoo.com.

After Prom - Permission Slip

All CHS Juniors and Seniors are invited to attend the free After-Prom party to be held at AMC Theatres at The Mall in Columbia immediately after the prom on Saturday, May 3 from 12 midnight to 5:00 am on Sunday, May 4. The party will included food, beverages and smoothies as well as three first run movies, casino games, money machine, Dance Dance revolution, Twister plus great prizes to be drawn throughout the evening.

To obtain a ticket, all students must turn in a permission slip to Prom Ticket sales by the end of lunch on Friday, April 25. Click HERE for a copy of the permission slip. NOTE: CHS 11th and 12th grade students may attend the After-Prom party even if they do not attend prom. Dates from outside CHS, and CHS 9th and 10th grade students, may only attend the After-Prom party if they are guests at the CHS Prom.

Centennial High School Announces Culture Fair 2008

Centennial High School's International Club will sponsor the school's third annual Culture Fair on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, from 7:40 to 2 p.m. in the high school auxiliary gym. The Culture Fair will spotlight the diversity of Centennial's student population through displays and exhibits that represent the school's many cultures. The event is open to the public.

Exchange Students - Hosting Info

OPEN YOUR DOOR TO THE WORLD! Dear Centennial Families, Have you thought about hosting an exchange student? Maybe an athlete?

Heiko plays American football in northern Germany

Natacha (Thailand) is a runner and studies 4 languages

Serap (Turkey) plays volleyball, tennis, and chess

Leopoldo loves all sports and goes to the gym with his friends

Preme (Thailand) plays soccer, watches soccer, maybe breathes soccer

Cecilai (Italy) plays tennis and team sports, jogs, and goes to the gym

Fumi (Japan) enjoys all sports but volleyball especially Francesco play soccer and hopes to study nuclear physics

Maybe an artist?

Rutija's (India) drawings reflect her love of nature

Bianca loves to sing with her family and do all kinds of crafts

Giacomo "Jack" is in a band and finds time for skateboarding

Berne (Germany) dances hiphop

Nisarg (India) plays the piano, draws, and plays cricket when he can

Martin (Chile) takes time from his studies for the artistry of cake-baking

All of these young people are good students; several are at the top of their class. They are looking forward to spending the 08/09 school year in the United States, attending school, making friends, and becoming part of an American family.

As a host family, you include the student as a member of the family, as much as is feasible. You provide a bed and 3 meals a day and enjoy a teenager's discovery of the real America. AFS Intercultural Programs has been arranging student exchanges for 60 years and has an active program in Howard County, providing support and fun activities for families and students. For more information, write or call Sally Byrne s.b.byrne@juno.com 301-604-7739

AP Information

AP Exams May 5-16 If you have a child who plans to take AP exams, please ask him or her to check their e-mail for their AP confirmation and reply that they are signed up correctly. More than 100 students have yet to reply. Unless a student has received a confirmation, they can't be sure their registration was received and their tests ordered. The confirmation notice also contains important information about the testing location, arrival and dismissal times, and what students should and should not bring to each exam. Tests may still be ordered with a late fee of $20 per registration (not per test) until mid-April when College Board ships the tests. After tests are shipped, mistakes are costly to fix! Partial refunds are still available for cancellations until the end of April. Cancellation forms are available in Guidance. Feel free to contact me with questions or concerns, Anne Talvacchio, CHS AP Testing Coordinator talvacchio@verizon.net, 410-461-5624 'Til Next Time,

Parents of Toddlers

Linda Blakeslee, the Advanced Placement Psychology teacher, is planning an activity in her classes that pairs children between the ages of two and five with her students. The students engage the toddlers in activities that demonstrate their cognitive stage of development. She is looking for parents of toddlers who are willing to bring their children in for a class period. The child would come to the media center during one of the following times:

Tuesday, April 1 from 8:25 to 9:10 am - second period

Wednesday, April 2 from 9:20 to 10:05 am - third period

Thursday, April 3 from 12:25 to 1:10 pm – fifth period

In past years, this has been an enjoyable experience for both teenagers and toddlers. If you have a child between the ages of two and five that you would be willing to bring to Centennial during any of those times, please email Linda Blakeslee at lblakeslee@hcpss.org, letting her know which times are convenient. Parents do not have to stay during that time period, but they may if they choose.
