TO OBTAIN A CHS STUDENT PARKING PERMIT, students must attend a Safe Driving Presentation accompanied by a parent or guardian. To date, presentations are scheduled for:

A "MUST-SEE" for the college-bound, parents of
"HAZE: The Perils of the College Drinking Culture in America"
MONDAY, JANUARY 30, 7 PM -- Howard High School, Ellicott City. Parents, guardians and college-bound students are invited to a free viewing of the award-winning documentary "HAZE," which tells the true story of a college freshman who died during a hazing incident involving alcohol. Guest Speakers from Howard County General Hospital and the University of Maryland will shed light on the short- and long-term results of binge drinking, drinking "games" and hazing, and will discuss hazing policies on college campuses. A community education event co-sponsored by HC DrugFree and the Howard High School PTSA.
MONDAY, JANUARY 30, 7 PM -- Long Reach High School, Columbia. FREE PSAT test score intepretation. Parents and students are encouraged to bring the student's PSAT score report (mailed to homes of tenth- and eleventh-graders who took the test at school in October 2011). Can't make it next Monday? There will be another PSAT Scores Information Night workshop MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 7 PM, at Glenelg High School, Glenelg.

BOYS BASKETBALL: Two victories last week -- the Eagles defeated (65-54) Atholton, on Wednesday (Howard County Times story here, Washington Post summary, statistics here ) and defeated (65-51) Reservoir on Friday (Howard County Times story here, Washington Post summary, statistics here).
GIRLS BASKETBALL: Centennial played a winning game at their "Future (Lady) Eagles Night" on Wednesday, defeating (44-43) Atholton; Howard County Times report is here, Washington Post summary, statistics are here, MaxPreps reporting is here. INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: Both Girls and Boys Teams brought up the rear at Wednesday's Howard County Relays; RunningMaryland individual, team results are here. Even so, we have our GIRLS TOP TEN: Seventh Place, 4x400m Relay Team; Ninth Place, 4x800m Relay Team; and senior Michelle Kuan took First Place in the Pole Vault Relay. Both Festivals take place SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 4
Howard County SOLO & ENSEMBLE FESTIVAL Mt. Hebron High School, Ellicott City -- 9 AM - 4 PM. Students will receive feedback from adjudicators as well as Certificate of Participation. Performances receiving a "Superior" rating at the county level will qualify to participate in the Maryland Music Educators (MMEA) State Solo & Ensemble Festival at Towson University in May.
Howard County DANCE FESTIVAL Atholton High School, Columbia -- 7 PM. Dance companies from every Howard County high school will perform; tickets $8 AT THE DOOR.

Two (2) Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Academy orientation programs for current juniors will provide a detailed overview of the Fall 2012 Paramedic Pathways Programs: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)-Basic during Grade 12 and the EMT-Paramedic Program offered at Howard Community College upon successful State Certification testing at the EMT-B Level. Nominations sought for county's "Celebrating Successes for Children" annual recognition awards
INDIVIDUALS, ORGANIZATIONS AND BUSINESSES that have made a positive difference in the lives of Howard County youth can be nominated to receive a recognition award from the Office of Children's Services at its 13th annual recognition ceremony in late April. Among the award categories is an OUTSTANDING YOUTH AWARD for individuals under the age of 18 years who have made a positive difference in the lives of Howard County youth.
