Updates - Wednesday January 21, 2009 1:00 p.m. Sports Updates Last week during the Howard game Molly Speicher became the all time leader in scoring with 1086 total career points. This record includes boys and girls at Centennial. A message from the health room: Winter illnesses are circulating our school. Students who come to school ill are not as attentive and do not perform as well on tests. Please keep your student home if they are vomiting or have a fever. For students who have a fever it is recommended they remain home until they are fever free for 24 hours. Thank you for your cooperation, Patty Bass, School Health Asst. 410 313-2533 Caroline Frodyma, Cluster Nurse Celebrating YOUTH Leadership On President's Day, February 16, 2009, the Elijah Cummings Youth Program (ECYP) will host its 2nd Annual Teen Leadership Summit, created by and for youth ages 12- 18. ECYP's Teen Leadership Summit entitled, "If I Ruled the World... Imagine That" will be held at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Hotel from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Doors will open at 8:00 a.m. With such dynamic success last year, the students are expecting more students and are even more enthusiastic about the endless possibilities for youth today. The students have invited numerous special guests including: Senator Lisa Gladden, NAACP President Marvin L. "Doc" Cheatham, CEO of Baltimore City Public Schools Dr. Andres Alonzo, WBAL-TV 11 Anchor Stan Stovall, Executive Vice President of Warner Music Group Kevin Liles, Baltimore Ravens Ed Reed, BET Producer and Host Jeff Johnson, Hip Hop Artist T.I., Entertainer and Designer Fonzworth Bentley, Owner and Entrepreneur Barbara "B. Smith", Actress Mo'Nique, and Author Nathan McCall. This year, leadership seminars will include: Health and Healthy Relationships Business/ Entrepreneurship Teen Date Violence How to Market Yourself Diversity as a Strength Hip Hop- a Language or a Culture? Entertainment and Its Effects on Youth College and Financial Planning Self- Expressions Please NOTE that admission to this event is FREE. All students planning to attend this event must register no later than February 2, 3009. Students who are not registered will not be permitted to participate in this event. Space is limited. For more information, please contact the ECYP office at (410) 542-4850 . WINTER STUDY SKILLS CLASSES Stressless Tests® announces Winter High School Study Skills classes are open for registration. Based on Nobel-prize winning research and the latest in neuroscience, classes help students who don't test well, despite doing well in class, who are easily distracted and frequently bored, and who think outside the box. They may be gifted learners, or they may be struggling. Classes meet for four Wednesday evenings from 6:30 - 8:30 at Centennial HS. The next course meets from February 11 - March 4, and the following session will meet from March 11-April 1. Keeping in mind the value of this class, parents are free to choose the fee that is right for them, from $135, $155, or the standard fee of $185. All students will receive the same valued classes and materials, regardless of cost. Middle School classes are also available. See the website for details. To register, go to www.Stresslesstests.org.
