by CLICKING HERE to download the PTSA MEMBERSHIP FORM. Thank you!
Our mission is three-fold:
- to support and speak on behalf of children and parents/guardians in the schools, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children;
- to assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect their children; and
- to encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools.
National PTA purposes:
- to promote the welfare of children and youth at home, school, community and place of worship
- to raise the standards of home life
- to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth
- to bring into closer relationship the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth
- to develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education.
We provide the following (just to name a few) . . .
- CHS PTSA Quicknotes –- twice-weekly e-newsletter with calendar/updates for the CHS community
- The Eagle’s Eye –- monthly PTSA newsletter with PTSA President, School Prinicipal columns
- CHS Student Directory -- free to each student household
- Annual Prom Promise Assembly and chaperoned, substance-free After-Prom Party
- PTSA Scholarships to graduating seniors -- four scholarships last year
- Grants to each class at CHS -- $500 to each class last year, totaling $2,000
- School improvement/enrichment -- $2,800 given to the school last year
- Financial support to county programs, like HC DrugFree
- Year-long school staff appreciation (luncheons, holiday cookies, etc.)
Even if you do not have the time to volunteer on a committee or attend PTA meetings, your membership dues provide us with necessary funds and the strength of "many voices" at the county, state, and national levels. It is one small, but important, way that every parent can be involved.
Research has shown that academic achievement among students is higher in schools with active PTAs than in schools without these associations. Schools are challenged to provide every child with the best education possible despite the limitations of tight budgets and government requirements. Schools are expected to do more with less. PTA helps bridge that gap.
Why should you join the PTSA?
- Be involved in your child’s education
- Get to know what is going on at school, and with the administration and staff
- Have a say in what happens at your school
- Be a positive role model for your child
- Connect, interact with other parents
- Help keep our students safe and healthy
- Support and enhance the academic environment at CHS
- Gain a better understanding of our school system
- Joining the PTSA also entitles you to membership in the Maryland and National PTAs.
